Great For Spells Casting & Potions

For many modern Pagans, one of the most popular and often-used tools is the cast iron cauldron. There is a proper way to season your cauldron as you would a cast iron pan. The first thing seasoning will do is prevent rust. This is crucial if you are using your cauldron outdoors, or to hold any liquids. This process will help you get years of use out of your cauldron. The second reason is to create a non-stick surface, which will extend its life and make it easier to clean.

Before beginning the seasoning process, wash your cauldron with soap and water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Most experts say this first time is the only time to use soap and water on your cast iron.
Next, coat your cauldron with a very thin layer of cooking oil, inside and out. Make sure to cover the lid as well. Pour a small amount of oil on a cloth and use this to rub into the surface.
Heat your over between 300 and 375, and place a tray at the bottom of the oven to catch any oil. Place the cauldron upside down on rack with lid next to rather than on top and bake for one hour.
Be sure to leave the cauldron and lid inside the oven to cool down completely before removing.
To continue the seasoning process, simply clean out your cauldron with hot water, and be sure to never place any cast iron in the dish washer. Add a thin layer of oil after each wash.
Once you've completed the seasoning process, make sure to consecrate your cauldron as you would any other magical tool for ritual.
